Earth Mother is a book that invites young readers into a world of gratitude and reverence for our planet, inspired by the teachings found in the Essene Gospel of Peace.
Earth Mother: The Inspiration
A couple of years ago, on a hot spring day in Nicaragua, I was listening to an audio recording of the Essene Gospel of Peace from our mountain-top home. The deep blue ocean spread out to the horizon from our remarkable viewpoint, while the lush jungle framed the scene. I was cleaning the kitchen at the time, when I was overcome by the delighted awareness, as if for the first time, that our human bodies mirror and compliment the earth in a beautiful symbiotic relationship.
It was a spiritual experience, as I took in the view around me through the large open, breezy windows of our home, and contemplated my small, little self up there on the rugged mountain… the gratitude that welled up within me was overwhelming. Immediately, I knew that I wanted to capture this gratitude in a book that my children would enjoy.
After I completed writing the text, my young son agreed to illustrate it; he took it entirely in whatever direction he chose, and I was so delighted with the end result… A couple of years after that fresh falling in love with our earth home, we can know share our beautiful children’s book with you!
Earth Mother: The Book
At the heart of Earth Mother is a simple concept: a young girl’s gratitude for the Earth and its abundant blessings, drawing parallels between the workings of her own body and the Earth itself. In drawing inspiration from the teachings attributed to Jesus in the Essene Gospel of Peace, I created a simple narrative that celebrates the Earth as a nurturing and sustaining force for humanity. The young protagonist expresses thanks to the Divine Creator and her Earth Mother for all that sustains her.
